Christmas is so close you can see it. But what are those of you who don't celebrate supposed to do? Traditionally, when the Christian world is busy celebrating Christmas, for lack of anything better to do, the Jews go out for Chinese food. Chanukah is already finished. And the Muslim community doesn't seem to be busy right now, either. So what better way to occupy ourselves leading into the holidays than with some comedy?

Kosher Jokes for the Halaladays is new comedy show that hits the stage December 23 at a venue called, ironically enough, Les Salles du Gesu, a former Jesuit school and chapel.

This comedy showcase brings together some of the best comedians that both the Muslim and Jewish communities have to offer. The lineup includes Abdul Butt and Faisal Butt (no relation), one of whom is Pakistani, and the other a mechanic, which, in some cases, could be a dangerous combination. There's also Robby Hoffman, an accountant by trade who is probably more comfortable as a gay woman than she is as a Jew. Eman, one of the organizers of the show, is a Palestinian-Muslim whose young comedy career has already taken her to the Just For Laughs stage, to New York City, and to the Amman Stand-Up Comedy Festival in Jordon. There's also Jessica Salomon, a former war-crimes lawyer for the United Nations who is sure to be keeping a close eye on some of the other comics. Dan Laxer, who actually wrote the article you're reading right now, is a local talk-radio announcer who is fairly new to the comedy stage. And there's Jeff Schouela, another organizer of the show, one of the hardest working comedians in Montreal.

Kosher Jokes for the Halaladays, December 23, 8:00 pm at the Gesu Theatre. Tickets are $20.00 or $15.00 for students with a valid ID. Call 514-861-4036. Doors and Drinks at 7:00pm.

Rogan sold out
The Joe Rogan fans among you will be disappointed to hear that his show at The Comedy Works is sold out. Rogan became a household name as a cast-member on the TV show News Radio. He then went on to Fear Factor, and has been a colour commentator for UFC.

I liked Rogan on News Radio, but was never a big fan of his comedy. He has a knack for ruffling feathers both on and off the comedy stage, with controversy dogging him even this past week over comments he made about MMA judging. Still, he has a following big enough to garner him a sold out show at The Works this weekend.
