Comedy for charity

As we slip into playoff season, the Habs hanging on by the skin of the teeth, who knows how far they’ll go, fans and non-fans alike can use a bit of comedy. And given that it’s playoff season, why not pit well-seasoned comics against each other, call it The Montreal Comedy Playoffs, and use it as an opportunity to raise money?
Fantasia Events & Entertainment present The Montreal Comedy Playoffs, where 10 local comedians will face off against each other after a gruelling draft lottery, overseen by local sportscaster Mark Schaloub of CJAD Radio. They’ll perform before a celebrity panel, call them on-ice officials, if you wish, that includes CJAD morning man Andrew Carter, writer and Montreal Gazette columnist Bill Brownstein, and Veronica Delfino of WatchMojo.
And the audience is not just sitting on the sidelines. You play the most important part by buying tickets; money raised goes toward the Astral Media Caring for Kids Radiothon supporting the Montreal Children's Hospital Foundation.
The line-up includes local seasoned comics with at least 4 years of stage experience under their belts:
Paul Ash is an engaging storyteller, and as a comedy show producer himself, runs his own open mic night, the Kick Ash Comedy Show, Tuesday nights at Andrew’s Pub on Guy Street in Montreal.
His partner in comedy crime, another producer and comic named Dan Derkson, is a big man with a big voice and a biting, acerbic style.

Dan Bingham is a Just For Laughs veteran, an absurdist singled out by the Hollywood Reporter.
Eman, a Palestinian-Canadian woman who has been to the comedy festival in Amman, Jordan, has performed in the Palestinian territories, Jerusalem, Nazareth… and Montreal.
Michael Lifschitz, a financial officer by day, realized a long time ago that no one is going to give him any sympathy for his disability, so he chose to laugh at it, instead, and gets others to laugh as well. From the gut. He painstakingly leaves his wheelchair, holds onto a cane for dear life, and manages to get himself up on stage, where he commands the crowd and leaves them wanting more.

Peter J. Radomski turns heads, sometimes away, but not before they take notice of his style. From his hair to his pencil moustache, and choice of dress, he seems like he walked into the present from a bygone era. Known to Montreal audiences one of the best emcees in town, as the host of a weekly open mic night at Grumpy’s, and as the emcee for Blue Light Burlesque.
Massimo, Scott Miller, Jeff Schouella, and Andrew Searles round out the line-up for a show that sure to but your gut, and raise money for the kids who need it, all at the same time.
The Montreal Comedy Playoffs, Sunday, April 10, AvenueArt/Studio10King. Puck drops at 7:00 pm.
