Comedy fans will have their pick o' the crop in a few days as Montreal's two main comedy rooms,The Comedyworks and, Ernie Butler's Comedy Nest, host two of the country's best stand-up comedians. One of them is a local boy named, Scott Faulconbridge. The other is Toronto-born Mike Wilmot. Both are Just For Laughs veterans. Each has been to the UK and back, and then some. Each has been on both the large and small screen. Where they differ is in their performance.

Wilmot has been described as “Canada's answer to Bill Hicks,” the late American comedian known for shooting from the hip, taking aim at anyone and everyone, and leaving no one standing. Wilmot isn't quite as ruthless a comic as Hicks was. But he doesn't hold back, either. His material is gut-bustingly funny. He is definitely as “blue” as Hicks, which means he leaves the stage littered with 4-letter words and bodily fluids. Hicks' character had a certain poignancy; he was a sad clown who left the audience spent. Wilmot is a happy clown with a gruff voice who leaves the audience wanting more.

Scott Faulconbridge is a clever comedian, at times madcap and zany, and always wins well-deserved praise not just from reviewers, but from his peers and others in the industry. He's one of the most respected, and one of the hardest working comedians in the country.

A former member of On The Spot, Montreal's best-known improv group, Faulconbridge has a handful of award nominations under his belt, including last year's Canadian Comedy Award nomination for Best Male Stand-Up, and he never seems to have any trouble being funny, either on or off the stage.

With his upcoming show at The Comedy Nest, Faulconbridge is returning to the scene of the crime; The Nest is where he recorded his CD, Warn The Others, a few years back. And just last month he recorded a DVD called Nice Shoes which should be available soon.

Faulconbridge will be at Ernie Butler's Comedy Nest, and Wilmot will be at The Comedy Works, both appearing November 25, 26, and 27.

Also on November 25, a new comedy show kicks on in Montreal called Komedy at La Kachette. This first one features none other than Montreal's own Freddie James. Otherwise known as an R&B singer, Freddie scored a disco hit with Get Up and Boogie when he was just 14. Since them he's established a side-career as a comic. Like Faulconbridge and Wilmot, he's a Just For Laughs veteran. He still sings with his band, the Freddie James Project. But you can catch him as a comic November 25 at La Kachette on Montreal's West Island.
