Love and comedy are in the air
Love and comedy are in the air in the run-up to Valentine’s Day with a couple of great comedy shows, and a musical celebration.
Montreal’s classic will be celebrating love in classic style with not one, but 2 shows to whet your appetite for romance. Tainted Love is a singles night that will features some of Montreal’s finest burlesque dancers interspersed with some of Montreal’s best stand-up comedians. Those familiar with the burlesque community will recognize such names as Lou Lou la Duchesse de Riere, L Diablo, Miss Sugarpuss and others who will hit the stage to tempt and tantalize. Then the comics come on to alleviate the pressure, including yours truly, along with Kevin Gasior, DeAnne Smith, and Robby Hoffman. Local comedy producer Paul Ash will act as your MC. And there will be dancing. That’s tonight.
Saturday and Sunday are for couples. People Will Say We’re In Love will feature a complete buffet, and music with Montreal’s own Frayne McCarthy and the Chris Barillaro Trio. Frayne originated the role of Marius in the Montreal production of Les Miserables, and has since toured the globe singing. Barillaro has been making a name for himself as a musician, musical director, and actor. Couples can melt into each other’s arms on the dance floor and enjoy a complete buffet with wine, dessert, and coffee.
Tickets: Tainted Love $25.00 per person.
People Will Say We’re In Love $150 per couple, $80.00 per person.

Then, on Valentine’s Day, Carla Collins comes back to town to tickle you in the sweet spots with her own brand of comedy at Ernie Butler’s Comedy Nest. Never mind that she was the first woman to host a major market morning radio program (Mix 99.9 Toronto). She’s been all over television hosting Entertainment Now, ET Canada, The Gemini Awards, and the Behind the Scenes at Just For Laughs, to name a few. She’s got her own show, Carlawood, on TVtropolis, and has a new business with her husband, the Grin Reapers, providing comedy for wakes, funerals, and memorials! Seriously!
As a comic she has been described as the “Queen of Comedy” and as “Canada’s Tina Fey.” She’s a regular at The Laugh Factory in L.A. (the club where Seinfeld’s Michael Richards’ career imploded). And now she’s an author. Her first book is called “Angels, Vampires, and Douche Bags.” It’s supposed to be the world’s first comedic motivational book.
But never mind all that. She’ll be at The Comedy Nest on Valentine’s Day along with several other local comics. It promises to be fun “for singles, couples, and polygamists.”
