Is that Hallowe’en I see lurking around the corner? Ah, yes, Hallowe’en, when the veil between the living and the dead is at its thinnest, and the night comes alive with stand-up comedians. Yes, I said stand-up comedians, as The Comedy Nest presents Nite of the Living Stand-Ups later this week.

No one knows what it’s like to walk around like zombies more than stand-up comedians, with their late nights, and their vapid lives walking the earth, dead-like, seeking the funny in those who live. Leading up to Hallowe’en The Comedy Nest has put together a scary line-up that includes David “Axe-Wielding” Acer, a psycho-comedian who’s been known to use magic, so there will be plenty of tricks if not treats.

Joining him on stage is DeAnne “Your Brain Looks Delicious” Smith, one of my favourite, and most creative, local comics. Smith is popular down-under, and by that I mean Australia, not the underworld. Mike “Barely Undead” Paterson is back for more, as is Patrick “Don’t Mind Me I’m Just Sucking Your Blood” Kuffs, Michel “The Soft-Handed Strangler” Huot, and Richard “I Ate His Liver With Some Fava Beans and a Nice Chianti” Sanders, who is also quite the prestidigitator.

The shows run from the 27 to the 29, and as you can tell by their spooky-ish nicknames, this promises to be a fun-filled show that will be frighteningly funny.

As a side note, Mike Paterson will soon be taping a segment for CTV’s Comedy Now series, as will other Montreal comics Eman, and Dan Bingham. Their shows will likely air sometime in the Spring.

New York comic Kurt Metzger is at The Comedy Works over the next few days. With writing and performing credits in Chapelle’s Show, White Boyz in the Hood, and the recent Comedy Central Roast of Charlie Sheen, Metzger’s also appeared in Ugly Americans, and his own half-hour special on Comedy Central, all the while performing in New York’s comedy clubs. His show runs through to the 22nd.

Then Comedy Works also has a Hallowe’en show planned. Watch this space for details.
